Last year I thought of using King Ramiro as a kind of icon for vistacurta and took it from the coat of arms/logo of the Viseu City Council.

Our Ramiro doesnʼt have a bugle but rather a kind of telescope, and instead of pointing it at the sky, he points it at the ground. To me, the irony of the name "vistacurta" (short sight) for a cinema programme in the interior, aimed at strengthening the region's audiovisual production — that desert where those short-sighted people live — has always sounded like a statement, political, something about how views only become broad if the interior is addressed (roots addressed...); on the other hand, looking at the interior can mean looking at Portugal's intimacy; blah blah blah... my idea was to have an elite figure bent over, observing the ground, the foundation, attentive to the constellations that also form beneath him. And Iʼve always been drawn to this kind of schmaltz, somewhere between the regionalist and the psychoanalytic. It might be an attempt to dismantle the prejudice of the small‑scale, but without being nationalist or anti‑cosmopolitan. Thus, vistacurta refers to a fine, minute view — like that of a cinephile; the critical, refined gaze on the reality around us. Which is often one of resistance.
