Visual identity and signage
Local accommodation unit with several rooms and bunk beds in Viseuʼs Historic Center

Allgo is the first hostel in Viseuʼs historic center. The name comes from the owners, who are also Dão wine producers, sold under the same brand. The hostel results from the renovation of an early 20th-century building.

Commissioned to develop the visual identity and signage to identify its spaces as part of the architecture project; exempted from using the wine brandʼs logo; and having the building itself — its age, its style — as the sole conceptual axis, my research for graphic references focused on establishing a relationship between the Allgo brand and the building.

Thereʼs no escaping it. Since my work here was meant to be a small component of the architecture project — a final touch after the construction work and cost overruns — I had little control over the results. Hence, in the images I provide, I instead focus on the graphic process, starting with the proposals that never made the cut.

Moodboard
My research focused on early 20th-century advertising and graphic design of Modernist inspiration, largely originating from avant-garde movements such as Italian Futurism. Using dynamic forms with sharp vertices, a strong humanist and rough-hewn quality, high contrast, vibrant colours, and revivalist typography, a relationship is established between the Allgo brand and the age and style of its building.
